1   Catfish Cove / Re: Breeding Bristlenose Catfish  on: Oct 2nd, 2009, 06:54am
Started by dambarwa | Post by simon
Hi I just read this info and it has been verry helpful, I have two bristle noses about 4.5cm male and female. But I dont know if they are breeding, they always hide under a bit of planted drift wood but the male seems to hide behind the filter sometimes and I dont think they are breeding. So my question is could my female be to young to breed with.

2   Mystified..? / My Baby Silver Dollars Died  on: Sep 29th, 2009, 04:35am
Started by Pollypocket | Post by Pollypocket

I was one of the very few to breed Silver Dollars, and raised them for 6 weeks, by this time they were half to 3 quarters inch long. Feeling they were ready to move to a tank of their own I did. I purchased a solution to clear the water a little and was told that the Material I brought would do them no harm at all. I added 2 drops to a tank which holds 25 liters, and within seconds they became distressed and all died. Talk about tears, I cried and was so upset. The product is called ACCUCLEAR. The dose for a 3.8liters is two drops so well under the dose.
I am wondering if the product reacted with the stones in the tank. Two drops is very small.
Can someone help me please. I have had tropicals for years and have reared other fish. Is it the product or have I been misinformed. Not many can breed these fish, in a home enviorent. I was really wrapped. Not now though.

Here's an article on Biological Filtration and the Nitrogen Cycle that was written for the FNZAS Aquarium World magazine (Feb 2009 issue). This article provides a general overview of what Biological Filtration is and how it functions in the Aquarium.

 7   Mystified..? / Lost 4 fish this week, help :-(  on: Jan 7th, 2009, 1:04pm

Hi,

I know this is my first post but I've not had a problem before and need help.

I have a 400L (100gal) tropical community tank setup and running well for a couple of years. I've got a couple of Blood Parrots, silver dollars, plecs, albino catfish, iridescent catfish an Opaline Gourami a Silver Shark.

Until recently I also had a Bumblebee catfish, a pair of large Angelfish and another silver shark but they have all died in the last week with 2 going in the last 2 days.

I performed a water and partial filter change 5 days ago after I lost the first fish (and because it was overdue a clean anyway). Today I have performed water tests and found that the Nitrate, Nitrite, Amonia and Ph levels are all fine . . .

One odd thing is that the two newest fish, the two silver dollars, have only been in the tank for 3 weeks and they're fine. Also the Blood Parrot fish tend to be very sensitive to water quality issues, typically showing colour fading when there's an issue but they seem fine as well.

What else can I test for to find out what going on in my tank??
